THINK Twice Before Storing....

"Every day, the world generates 2.5 billion gigabytes of data. Also, 90% of the world’s data was generated within the past 2 years."  According to IBM new Power8 article

What is this "Data"? At least 10% of above 2.5 billion is useful as a "Information". In few years back people had a concern when selecting storage medium based on the importance of the data because storage was costly resource but today digital devices/communication are getting cheap and storage medium is very cheap ( and free storage providers) then unlimited storage was open for everybody as a result people store most of the data without filtering and developed applications to upload data even without knowing the device holder.

It's true with increasing population and new business evolution need more data to generate more/useful information for the purpose, to archive these requirements more storage and processing are mandatory requirement. But I'm sure that most of the data load today is a useless/garbage means it won't use to generate information and even generate information, it  will not add value to the progress of human society or any.

Then somebody can argue why not? we are emotionally happy about storing photos, videos, ect with some freely available sites then we can access anywhere at anytime and forever. -----But actually are they referring those data frequently (after storing most of the time don't have time to at least refer what stored )? e.g if you enjoy some video clip shared by somebody then what is the requirement of keeping it forever even with archiving storage.

All those memories are important ? No, even our brain doesn't keep all these thing in memory because naturally it will erase all the unwanted information/data and keep important, frequently access memories.

I saw some community sites and some big web based companies are adding Terabytes daily and increasing processing power, while struggling with fulfilling  additional cooling, power, etc and some moved Data Centers to the north pole( which is very narrow minded decision and nobody is talking about the harmfulness of it ). As a result we are rapidly towards global warming and heavy pollution. Because all these things needs power ( more processing , more cooling , more communication) and other materials to produce equipment.


There are R & D for power efficient DCs, Processing, Communication and storing methods but it's not developing with considerable speed when compared to the Data growing speed. 

Authorities ( very few ) trying to control this Data center environmental pollution by introducing new laws (  Law enforcement for heat generation of data centers )  which is very positive trend and hope other countries also give attention on this very soon.

Anyway as a Human if we discipline our-self by reduceing unwanted data which is the best method to avoid reduce Storage requirement.

We have to protect this world for future ......Please THINK twice before store anything.

Proud as a Sri Lankan....

Even introduce by British people, now it's a global language...and I'm proud because....Dananjaya you beat them same as our cricket.

I'm sure they check many parameters many filters to prove not to award this to Asian but this is the first time they couldn't find a fault because its superb talent. It's not just vocabulary maximum personality, stability, clear are ingredients of your voice, I don't know if anybody feels but I feel it's honest talking add beauty to your style as well. Person who doesn't have a good English skills can understand what you say without missing anything therefore this is a "Magic voice".

And I couldn't identify difference between the general conversation and speech on the stage both are same quality. I noticed very few singers have this while they are talking and singing.

According to me, your presentation and speaking style is better than popular political leaders like Obama,  David Cameron ( They may jealous with you...haa haa )because sometimes I miss what they say but when you speak it's like a mother tongue Sinhalese.
